Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”P. Coelho
Requiem of  Past

I can see the tears falling
on the inside
of your body, tears poised
quietly behind your ribs.

You sit on leather or wood and
wait to be courted,
a long life skirting around a dance;
you barely realize the red farmhouse
quickly passing on the left.

You strain to hear the horse grazing,
the tiger lilies blooming orange,
the tall trees keep preaching as the
shimmering sun embraces brown bark.
You pray life will keep on showing you.

I can see your tears falling
as you feel the salt crystals creating
your pathway of stepping stones,
all while the warm July rain falls.

  1. mmm moving...its hard to see life when you are crying inside...when they become the stepping stones for our feet we must walk...i hope life does keep showing them..

  2. I think you have captured the so sad and strong desire to save someone in trouble. Beautiful piece.

    1. yes, you are exactly right... we all deserve a chance to slow down and see. thank you fro leaving me a message.

  3. The first stanza really has me thinking... tears behind ribs. I've not heard that before, but rather like it. So many cry on the inside like that. I did for many years and there is hope!

    1. yes i heard this from a kid who was called stupid -- tears on the inside...ouch. thank your for your comment

  4. Tracy, that first stanza pulls the reader in with your unique phrasing. Well written piece. And Paulo C. happens to be one of my favourite writers.

  5. Tracy, one of the things I like most about this is how you've mixed up the senses...synesthesia. Especially in the 2nd to the last stanza.

  6. You strain to hear the horse grazing,
    the tiger lilies blooming orange,

I want to hear the horse and the tiger lilies. Clever expressions and a moving poem.

  7. Beautifully penned ~ That third stanza is my favorite, with the tiger lilies blooming orange ~

Thank you for taking a moment to leave me your word of wisdom.
